BUTAOTOME Dream Diary

On this page, I write the dreams I have that are related to BUTAOTOME.

December ??, 2015: BUTAOTOME members were right in front of my place. With them, there was also Ichigo (PLS) and a truck with I LOVE-ish artworks. I immediately took my copy of Chess and went out, for meeting them and blablabla. But then I woke up.

July 23, 2016: Comp contacted me on Twitter, asking me some stuff about TC and overseas things.

October 6th, 2016: Apparently, a “not-final” version of FREAKS was leaked on the web, with different versions of the songs. Namida Tojikometa Sora had some vocal effects that made it sound like something from a creepypasta.

January ??, 2017: The sixth original/1st major was revealed! The cover art was a typical one. New original-ko, the background was light blue with blue/orange details. The tracklist had 8 tracks. Can’t remember any title, but they were all new (so, no Radical Shoujo, Tanpopo, etc.).

February 19th, 2017: Bara to Shingan got a generic RenMerry love and kisses MMD video.

February 27th, 2017: Usotsuki got a strings version.

May 6th, 2017: there was a livestream in a new studio. It looked like a chalet in the mountains. Also, there were all the four members.

November 3th, 2017: I met BUTAOTOME.

August ??, 2018: Rockin’ Pink Monster got a vocal version.

October 6th, 2018: The Sis made a Youtube Poop based on Lavender Town’s music.

January 1st, 2019: There was a new song. I even listened to it. I was aware of being in a dream, so I wanted to memorize it as I could be able to do it. I wanted to hum the melody to my friends. Sadly I can’t remember many details, except that it didn’t resemble any Touhou theme, it sounded very metal-like and with Ranko’s angrier tones at her best. I remember a small part of its lyrics. “Zetsubouteki meruhen”, translatable as “desperate fairy tale” and “zetsubou” (despair).

January 29th, 2019: BUTAOTOME’s website was updated. (seriously, this is something that could happen only in dreams)

February 27th, 2019: Groove Coaster made a(nother) collaboration with Crossbeats (lol dead game). I don’t remember the full list of songs that would have been added on crossbeats, and I don’t have any detail about songs that would have been added on Groove Coaster (also because I know nothing about CB originals except for an Akatsuki Records song). I remember the song selection included Kodoku na Hana, Konohazuku, Initial Initial Echo Ego (RD-Sounds song), and FUJIN Rumble (COSIO song). I was happy to see a proper BUTAOTOME song in the game and surprised to not see LOVE FOR YOU (Akatsuki Records).

March 2?th, 2019: TAPSONIC added the promised BUTAOTOME song.

April 30th, 2019: Shiroi Asa turned out to be a generic Necro-Fantasia song.

May 16th, 2019: As part of the 10th anniversary celebration, a live in Italy was announced.

May 30th, 2019: A Ranko version of the song O.C.N.P. was released.

June 29th, 2019: the Black live setlist had pretty much exclusively Touhou songs.

October 19th, 2019: BUTAOTOME went to Italy and posted a video of Ranko in Rome (wrong part of the country!!11)

October 26th, 2019: A random circle released an album with tracks that parodied some big Touhou circles. No, not covers or what, but arrangements made in the style of those groups. I remember it started with a BUTAOTOME track, and there was even an RD-Sounds parody.
In this album, there were new tracks by some of these big names. These tracks were Seihou arrangements (real Seihou, not that Flower of Japan crap). BUTAOTOME’s track was an arrangement of Enigmatic Doll and it was a piano ballad.

November 9th, 2019: the White live setlist wasn’t interesting, it was pretty much the same as the Black live one, Haru no Yuki was there.

June 30th, 2020: Scott sends me a Youtube video of a BUTAOTOME song. I realize that this was a song I never heard before and I was mindblown.
It was a song from 2019, from a compilation BUTAOTOME members NEVER advertised before. It was an original song, even though some small parts were reminiscent of Touhou melodies. I remember the final part of each refrain was vaguely similar to Casket of Star. It was a pure rock track without any audible piano (even in my dreams, Paprika is gone), and a bit long for recent standards (LOL, it was at least 3 minutes). Ranko used her angry tones in the first verses, I remember she also dropped a RRRR. I don’t remember any lyrics, except for some very basic words/grammar. But the title was “Mos:something: Princess”. Now, what’s wrong with me associating fairy-tale language with BUTAOTOME songs, because this is the second time ever I dream of a new song, and the first time it had the word メルヘン. My brain probably also mixed it with an Arcaea song called Monochrome Princess. Anyway, I remember that after this I woke up. I realized that I dreamed of a new BUTAOTOME song, and my first instinct was trying to preserve its memories, so I would have been able to reproduce it somehow (just humming the melody) and sharing it with friends. And then I woke up again, somehow.

July 13, 2020: Occultic Dreamer got a PV with a different recording of the song.

August 26, 2020: Paprika tweeted.

September 3, 2020: I wanted Chibi Ranko to gain her own will so that I could talk with her, and with her own thoughts. (yep, I was very into the Yume no Hanashi translation at the time, thanks Bibi I didn’t dream about the other stories)

November 11, 2020: Comp made a Touhou arrangement in 2011 under another alias.

March 8, 2021: Occultic Dreamer, Guuzou Utopia and a bunch of Buta tracks got added to DAM

April 26, 2021: My mother found some rare CDs at my aunt’s house. One of them had the following tracks

  1. ??? (it wasn’t a Buta song)
  2. Sleep Junkie
  3. ??? (it was a Buta rock song)
  4. Sleep Junkie demo (sounded clearer and shorter)
  5. ??? (it was a Buta live recording, the song wasn’t rock, it was a bit slow-ish, and people were clapping following the rhythm)

May 5 (?), 2021: Odabutsu got added to Chunithm

May 9, 2021: Groove Coaster had a Butaotome-themed event, but they added ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. It was also unclear if there was a re-run of the member avatars.

May 17, 2021: Lost Word Chronicle Ranko ver was leaked by someone who casually used it in their Touhou introduction video.

May 26, 2021: Butaotome did another Capital City of Flowers in the Sky vocal arrangement and it sounded good

July 13, 2021: Paprika was searching for her piano

July 19, 2021: Koishi takes over the Butaotome website.

July 31, 2021: The Ura Best wasn’t even a best of. It was a mix of old (not even 2010-2011) and new tracks, distributed in the tracklist as characters (there were Soldi, Fabulous and a new Yorigami song, also apparently Kiriri is a Youmu song). They even included some Ranko solo stuff (no, not the amazing songs) and… a Shibayan 3L Wriggle song. Kagerenbo was there, tho

August 2, 2021: the Cannonball OST was released, but instead of the Byakuren vocal track, there was a new Butaotome arrange of Cosmic Mind

August 15, 2021: Groove Coaster added a Shoujo Rengoku 5 track, but it was one of the re-arranges.

August 17, 2021: Comp made a new Twitter account for his non-Buta stuff (where he was the bassist for a band), but he still used the name Comp and his polar bear persona.

February 26, 2022: I got a Touhou book that was translated into English, and it explained something about Seihou stuff and circles who should do it. In the archived webpage, there was a tweet about a Melonbooks compilation that… apparently got forgotten by everyone wtf. It was a very old compilation and it had a Butaotome song. Original theme: literally ? Title: CALAMITA

March 9, 2022: Ranko wrote lyrics for Mai Kotohge (funny thing is that on that same day, DanKagu announced the addition of a Muon Kagura song)

March 15, 2022: Touhou Lost Word had a 20-hour livestream with Beatmario and ZUN (Comp wasn’t even there most of the time), where they talk about ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING except for the game. There wasn’t even Touhou stuff, they announced things like the Arceus raid in Pokémon Go.
However, there was also a new MV. It was another Comp song, with a male JP actor as the singer. It was an arrangement of Girls’ Hifuu Club, and it had a bad 3D model of Renko.
I don’t remember what it sounded like, but it had a different vibe, and I thought “I would like it much more if it wasn’t made for Lost Word”. I was also annoyed because I would have to buy an album with the MV songs as part of the ButaHifuu collection.

April 29, 2022: western fans on Twitter recommend Ranko to play Fortnite.

May 25, 2022: Comp made a new song with Nanase Aikawa, and it was good.

July 2, 2022: Comp followed TC’s Twitter account (to this day I’m still wondering why he follows my personal account and not the one more relevant to his works).

July 25, 2022: Touhou Danmaku Kagura removed that Laser Mari song by Cool&Create, and added Good Meister instead.
