Lyrics
oroka mono kamihitoe majime sa
bakabbana de yurusu yo
harari kaze ni yureugoku kumomagusa
aru ga mama ni
jinsei datte bakuchi datte onnaji mon da yo
suki ni ikiru shika nai kara
toba no hana homeraretatte nani mo aryashinai yo
gokou demo karasu demo katereba banbanzai
issunsaki wa yami datte minna wakattetemo
arukidasu ashi wo tomeru koto wa dekinai no
tojita torinobe no kemuri adashino ni nani wo nozomu
jinchi oyobu han’i janai ato wa unshidai
chouhan hatte dochira ni suru?
aa kuyuraseru kemuri ni utsurikomu
kako wa mou wasureta wa
harari kaze ni yureugoku kumomagusa
aru ga mama ni
jinsei datte bakuchi datte onnaji mon da yo
suki ni ikiru shika nai kara
Translation
The melted snow turns into a river, the seasons change again
Spring comes to this mountain, blooming lively
Even where there is no fire, smoke rises for some reason
I turn around three times and smoke my tobacco
The rest will drift away
Foolish ones, by a paper-thin margin, have earnestness
I’ll forgive them with a fool’s blossom
The kumomagusa sways in the breeze
Just as it is
Life and gambling are really the same thing
You’ve got no choice but to live how you like
A flower in the gambling den, even if praised, there’s nothing to gain from it
Whether it’s a strong hand or bare cards, if you win, it’s a grand success
Even though we all know just ahead lies darkness
We can’t stop our feet from stepping forward
The smoke from the closed off Torinobe, how does it look like in Adashino?
It’s beyond the reach of human knowledge, the rest is up to luck
Odd or even, which will you choose?
Ah, reflected in the smoldering smoke
It’s a past I’ve already forgotten
The kumomagusa sways in the breeze
Just as it is
Life and gambling are really the same thing
You’ve got no choice but to live how you like
Notes:
– title seems to be a fusion of Tsurezuregusa (Essays in Idleness, a collection of essays written by the Japanese monk Kenkō) and Kumomagusa (JP name of Saxifraga merkii var. idsuroei – this flower also appears in the name of a Sannyo spellcard)
– ばかっ花 / bakappana / fool’s blossom is a type of hanafuda game
– 五光 / gokou / five lights – five 20 point cards in hanafuda
– 皆素 / karasu – dealt hand with only 1 point cards in hanafuda
– 鳥辺野 / torinobe – an area in Kyoto, it appears in the above-mentioned Tsurezuregusa as a burial place.
– 徒野 / adashino – another area in Kyoto. Torinobe, Adashino, and Rendaino (which you probably know from the Hifuus) are known as the three major burial grounds in Kyoto
